How long does each session last?
Each session lasts 50 minutes which is known as ‘the therapeutic hour’. This allows therapists to write up their notes in the final 10 minutes of the hour before moving on to another client. It has become the norm in the psychotherapy world.
How long will I need to see a therapist?
Everyone is different and it is difficult to answer this question in a hypothetical way. Some clients work through an issue quickly and move on feeling much better. For others, specifically those with a history of trauma, the work can be slower as they need time to trust the therapeutic relationship, process past events and move forward.
How much does a session cost?
I charge £55 a session.
Where do you work?
I work from my home in SW London and online.
How will I know who is the right therapist for me?
The best way is to meet and go from there. I offer a free consultation of 50 minutes to allow us both to gauge whether we are likely to be a good fit for each other.
What do I do if the therapy isn’t helping?
Sometimes, the initial relief that you have found someone to work with can shift, especially as things you may find hard to talk about are brought into the therapy space. Being open about your feelings and expressing concerns about the relationship between you and your therapist is an important part of the therapy from which deeper connection with yourself and others can grow. It is important that you feel you are seeing the right person however, so if you are not happy with your therapist, consider searching for a different one.
Will psychotherapy fix me?
Just as physical therapy following a stroke or injury restores our bodies slowly, over time, psychotherapy offers a similar service for the mind. Recovering the use of your legs after a serious accident requires expertise, support, and challenge from health care professionals. Psychotherapy too can be slow and painful. You do the work yourself, guided by your therapist. So, rather than passively accepting treatment, your own work on yourself improves your self-esteem and happiness immeasurably.
